Trudeau Worn Out, Thrown To The Wolves In 4-3 Loss

After Philippe Trudeau made 38 stops through two periods on Sunday, it appeared as though he was on the verge of stealing a win in Sudbury, until the 67’s allowed three goals in eight minutes early in the third, dropping a 4-3 decision and snapping their four-game point streak.

It wasn’t until the final period, where the 67’s finally started to outshoot Sudbury, that the Wolves’ stellar chances started finding the back of the net.

In a game that featured two of the worse penalty kills in the OHL, both teams killed off their man disadvantages on the afternoon until four minutes into the third, when Connor Crisp scored with Jake Middleton in the box to tie the game at two.

Craig Duininck scored less than two minutes later to give Sudbury their first lead of the game.

John Urbanic deflected home his first goal of the season in the final five minutes after Sudbury had taken a two-goal lead, but even with a late powerplay, Chris Byrne didn’t pull Trudeau early enough, and Sudbury hung on to take it.

Joseph Blandisi opened the scoring for Ottawa with his 15th goal of the season.

Crisp tied the game with his first of the afternoon before the first period was out, but Ryan Van Stralen took advantage of a bad giveaway in the second to give the visitors their second lead of the game.

Trudeau made 44 stops, ending the road trip stopping 119 of 127 shots on the weekend.

The northern road trip, which was arguably the peak for last year’s 67’s, saw the Barberpoles take home three of a possible six points.

They return home to take on the Erie Otters on national television on Friday night.
