Catching Up With Zanetti

D-zone face off.  Through the glass with my iPhone.

Former Ottawa 67s defenceman, Marc-Anthony Zanetti (@FlyingZee10) is starting his second season of professional hockey with the Düsseldorfer EG.  The team has made a very long pre-season bus trip to play 4 games in 4 days against teams from other European hockey leagues.  First was a 8-hour bus trip to Landshut, Bavaria to play the Landshut Cannibals from the 2nd Bundesliga.  Then it was a 4-hour bus ride to Villach, Austria to plan against HC Biel from the National (Swiss) Hockey League, followed by games against EC VSV and EC KAC of the Erste Bank Eishockeyliga.

67's Rebuild Comparison Part 3: QMJHL's Gatineau Olympiques

Less than a month from now, the Ottawa 67's and Gatineau Olympiques renew hostilities in a pair of exhibition games.  It wasn't long ago that the CHL refused to allow the two teams to play each other due to matchups being too violent.  It also wasn't long ago that these two squads went on long playoff runs, with Gatineau going to the President's Cup finals in 2011 and Ottawa going three rounds in 2012.  Now, they appear to both be back on the upswing in their rebuilds.

67's Rebuild Comparison Part 2: Kingston Frontenacs

Two seasons ago, the Ottawa 67's and Kingston Frontenacs, longtime bitter rivals, were left picking up the pieces as they combined for one playoff win between them, both in seasons with plenty of expectation.

The difference was that Ottawa had one more year left in their contending window, while it's the closest Kingston's been to contention since.  However, many are now considering the Fronts to be the future class of the OHL with their strong crop of young players.  As Ottawa's biggest rival and a team to be reckoned with in the next few years, the Frontenacs are a great team to compare to the 67's.
