Home Sweet Home; 67's beat Gens 4-1 to stay undefeated at home

The Ottawa 67’s beat the Oshawa Generals 4-1 this afternoon for their second straight win moving them into 7th place in the Eastern Conference. Jeremiah Addison and Dante Salituro each had a goal and an assist while Liam Herbst stopped all but one shot.

For the second straight game, the 67’s started off a little slow in the first 5 minutes. The Gens nearly opened the scoring early on as a puck beat Liam Herbst but the hit the crossbar and shot back out. The 67’s had 4 powerplay chances, but were unable to take advantage of their opportunities including a 1 minute 5-on-3. It wasn’t until the 18.48 mark that Jeremiah Addison would draw first blood. A far shot from the top of the faceoff circle would find its way past rookie netminder Jeremy Brodeur.

The Gens thought they tied it up early in the second, but the goal got called back immediately as the ref had blown the whistle before the puck went in. A quick whistle after the initial Herbst save had the Gens’ team up in arms.

The 67’s would take a 2-0 lead on a delayed penalty call. Travis Barron fed the puck across the goal crease to Connor Graham who tapped it in on the door step. The Gens responded 5 minutes later as Jacob Busch notched his first of the season to get his team on the board and within one. His goal was spoiled after Sam Stunicka scored a beautiful goal 3 minutes later to regain the 2-goal lead for the 67’s.

Dante Salituro scored a similar goal to Studnicka’s midway through the third period. He shot the puck top shelf past Brodeur, who had no chance on either goal. The Gens had a golden opportunity to cut the lead in half as the ref awarded the Gens a penalty shot stating that a 67’s player covered the puck with his hand in the crease.
“I wasn't too happy with the call. The whistle should have been blown but it doesn't matter now it was just from my vantage point it looked like [Herbst] had the puck and there was no whistle. Anyway, it worked out well for us,” said 67’s head coach Jeff Brown.
Liam Herbst stopped Canucks prospect Cole Cassels who tried to sneak the puck in on the short side pretty much sealing the Gens fate.
“He gave us some tense moments when he decided to play [the puck], but when he stays in his net he's good. He's solid. He's confident. He's quiet in the net and I really like his game,” Brown said on Liam Herbst second consecutive start in goal.
A scrum behind the net gave the 67’s a two-man advantage for a full two minutes but like the rest of the game, they were not able to capitalize going 0/8 on the afternoon and 0/12 on the weekend. But that didn’t matter, as they skated away with a 4-1 victory and handing the Gens their first regulation loss of the regular season.

The 67’s had a more complete effort compared to Friday night where the team had to rally from behind late in the third period to beat the Niagara IceDogs.
“We worked harder and concentrated on defense. There were still some lapses. I didn't feel like at the end of the game it was a 4-1 game, it was a hard-fought game. We're starting to do the little things to make ourselves successful. I don't think that was Oshawa's best game, I don't think if you talk to their coach, he wouldn't be very happy, but we'll take it. At this point in the season, losing our first 4 and coming back and winning both at home, it's a good step for us,” said Brown.
Already facing each other twice in this young season, the 67’s travel back down the 401 to take on the Gens in a Thanksgiving matinee tomorrow afternoon.
