67's close out road swing with a 3-1 loss to the Whalers

The Ottawa 67's only managed to grab 3 of a possible 6 points on their 3-game Western roadtrip this weekend falling 3-1 to the Plymouth Whalers on Saturday night.

Coming off his third shutout of the season, Leo Lazarev made 27 saves in the loss and his shutout bid ended at 76:04.

It was Alex Nedeljkovic who stole the show at the other end of the ice. The 19-year old prospect of the Carolina Hurricanes made 37 of 38 saves for his 19th win of the season. It wasn't until the 16:38 mark of the third period that the 67's were able to solve him. Down 2-0 late in the third, Dante Salituro got the 67's lone goal on the power play.

The 67's continued to push throwing 16 shots at the Plymouth net, but it wasn't enough.

Mathew Campagna scored the eventful game winner at the 16:49 mark of the second period. Connor Sills drew first blood in the first period while Francesco Vilardi scored an empty netter in the third to seal the loss for the 67's.

Despite the loss, the 67's remain one point up on the North Bay Battalion for 3rd in Eastern Conference thanks to a Niagara 5-2 win over North Bay tonight.

The 67's schedule doesn't get any easier as they take on the London Knights next at TD Place on Friday night.
