Lintuniemi Overtime Own-Goal Caps 4-3 Loss

Alex Lintuniemi had a pair of identical cross-crease deflections find the back of the net on Thursday night, but the latter of the two, into his own net, cost them a point in the standings.

After being on the ice for Windsor’s equalizer in the final minute, Lintuniemi accidentally tipped in Trevor Murphy’s centering attempt, giving the Spitfires a 4-3 overtime victory.

The overtime tally was Murphy’s second of the game, his first of the game in the opening frame being the wakeup call for Ottawa.

When Murphy scored to give Windsor a 2-0 first period lead, it looked like the 67’s had nothing in them.

Travis Konecny, playing in front of a boatload of family and friends from Southern Ontario, scored a highlight-reel goal to get the visitors on the board.

In the second, he picked up where he left off, setting up Lintuniemi’s marker and setting up Jacob Middleton for the go-ahead marker.

Konecny easily could’ve had five or six points in the final 40 minutes alone.

In a span of 40 minutes, from Murphy’s first to Lucas Venuto’s tying goal, the game went from out of reach to blown save for the 67’s, who head to Saginaw and try to further help Windsor’s cause by taking out the Spirit.

In their own bout of scoreboard-watching, Ottawa is only one point up on North Bay, who clinched their playoff spot with a win over Barrie, for third in the East.
