67's drop a 3-2 OT decision to the Battalion

It was a ‘too many men on the ice’ bench minor that led to the Ottawa 67’s demise in North Bay on Thursday night. Mountain native Zach Poirier scored on the power play midway through the extra frame to give his Battalion a 3-2 victory and handing the 67’s their 1^st OT loss of the season.

Mike Amadio (LAK) opened the scoring for the Battalion midway through the first period after a crisp Brad Chenier cross-ice pass found his stick through traffic. The puck beat Liam Herbst on the low angle giving them the 1-0 lead.

Despite some solid end-to-end action in the first period, the 67’s couldn’t solve goaltender Jake Kment until the 13:43 mark of the second period. Adam Craievich set up Ben Fanjoy with a crisp cross-ice pass of his own. Fanjoy made no mistake and sent a wrist shot past Kment to get the 67’s on the board and tie the game at 1.

Miles Liberati (VAN) regained the Battalion’s lead just past the midway point of the third period for his fourth goal of the season. But Travis Konecny (PHI) responded with less than 5 minutes remaining in the game to tie it back up and extend his point streak to 10 games. He still remains tied for first in OHL scoring after Alex DeBrincat scored for Erie tonight.

Konecny’s goal sent the game to overtime. Midway through the extra frame, the 67’s were caught with too many men on the ice. The Battalion capitalized on their power play opportunity when Zach Poirier grabbed his own rebound in front of the net and sent the puck past Herbst on the back hand for the 3-2 OT win.

The 67’s lose their 2^nd in 4 games and will look to regroup tomorrow night in Sault Ste Marie where they face a struggling Greyhounds team.
