Ottawa's offence in the Steel City dissolves

Technology halted the start of a game that the 67's wanted a flying start to, goal reviews gave them a fighting chance in a game they had no business being in, and ultimately a mix of the two swapped momentum against them in the third period, the only real chance they had to get back into Saturday's game in Hamilton.

The Bulldogs, blown out at home by Ottawa a week ago, stormed back to return the favour with a 4-2 win over the Barberpoles.

After a flickering light fixture temporarily stunted the opening faceoff, Hamilton had an early goal called off for goaltender interference.

Matt Luff scored seconds later on a wraparound, though, as the 67's disastrous opening frame began.

Despite a second disallowed goal in the first, Hamilton roared out to a 3-0 advantage early in the second and chased Liam Herbst, forcing Leo Lazarev to come in for two of, what's expected to be, eight periods of hockey over a four day span for the young netminder.

With their only fighting chance in the third, down 3-1, a deflection off the crossbar behind Hamilton's Charlie Graham was immediately followed up by a goal at the other end.

Once the 67's attempt was waived off, the Bulldogs insurance marker stood.

Jake Middleton scored late in the third, but it was far too late to pull off a comeback.

Trent Mallette also tallied, although that was all the offence for a team that put up a six-spot a week earlier in the former pro rink.

Travis Konecny had a rough go in the third, put in a headlock by Luff in a scuffle near the bench and taking a vicious high-stick late in the third, but should be back tomorrow when Ottawa takes on Oshawa.
