During their annual school day game, the Ottawa 67's became the class of the East, beating the former conference-leading Frontenacs 2-1 on Wednesday morning.
Ottawa played its usual cycle-heavy game, drawing penalties and making Kingston pay on the powerplay.
"For us to start 0-3 and be where we are now, it shows in the conference, anybody can beat anybody right now," said Jeff Brown, who didn't clue in until one of his players mentioned to him in the locker room that his team was tops in the conference.
"We're ecstatic to be there."
Jeremiah Addison opened the scoring on the powerplay after spinning off a check, and Stepan Falkovsky fired a point shot through Lucas Peressini at the tail end of a man advantage.
Leo Lazarev made 27 stops, including a late cross-crease save on Conor McGlynn to preserve the win.
Ottawa takes on the other conference leading team, Kitchener, on Friday.

8,000 school-aged kids watched on today as Travis Konecny and Lawson Crouse, teammates in their school-aged years, traded chances as the two most dominant players for their respective teams.
"It's always fun to play against him, when we go to Owen Sound to play the Super Series it'll be fun," said Konecny.
For Konecny, the venue was more hair-raising than the matchup or the atmosphere, returning to the Canadian Tire Centre where he played his rookie year.
"I had some smiles coming in the door here, it was nice to come back here and check it out again."
Crouse was shadowed by Ottawa's checking line that pinned Drake Rymsha and Travis Barron on the NHL first-rounder.
"He's a key, just like we have a couple of those guys, but he's a great player and we did a job on him tonight, I'm proud of our guys," added Brown.
